National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) Ltd, aiming to provide even greater security at online card purchases, upgraded the customer identification procedure when performing online card transactions!

The new procedure is carried out through the Bank’s new mobile application, NBG CY 3DS.

The NBG CY 3DS mobile app is provided free of charge to all National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) cardholders.

It is a 3D Secure Authentication solution that allows you to conduct e-commerce transactions with strict security and with a simplified authentication process, with the help of biometric recognition (digital fingerprint or face recognition).

  • General information 
    • The NBG CY 3DS app for smartphone or tablet devices will replace the previous authentication method which is done by sending a One Time Password via SMS
    • If you don’t have a smart smartphone or tablet device, you’ll be able to verify your identity when you trade online by the One Time Password via SMS method
    • Through the NBG CY 3DS application, your online card transactions will now be verified using Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). Your identity is strongly verified when performing online card transactions, by applying the new EMV 3DS security protocol. This ensures your online card transactions and significantly reduces the risk of fraud
    • Verification of your electronic card transactions is done using biometrics or a personal identification number (PIN), in the NBG CY 3DS application
    • Using the NBG CY 3DS app, your identity is now easily verified. You can purchase securely online without having to remember large and complex login passwords
    • The use of the application is mandatory in electronic card payments within the European Economic Area
    • The application complies with EU Payment Services Directive 2015/2366 (PSD2) and the certified MasterCard 3D-Secure v.2.0 which ensures both a comprehensive user experience and the highest security standards for online card payments
    • To complete your transactions using Strong Customer Authentication, simply download for free the NBG CY 3DS application:
       
    • Push notification or OTP is for a specific transaction, so every time you make a new online transaction to merchants participating in 3D Secure, you will be sent a new notification or a new OTP
    • Your smartphone or tablet must be connected to the internet when using the NBG CY 3DS application
    • When you do business with merchants who are not yet participating in 3DSecure internet transaction services, your card will still work without the need to use the NBG CY 3DS application
    • If you have set up a standing payment order to an e-commerce merchant, you do not need strong identification every time a payment is made. Your identity is verified with strong customer identification only the first time you pay using your card

Mastercard Debit

With the new MASTERCARD DEBIT card you can purchase goods or services in an expanded network of businesses around the world. At the same time, it offers you additional privileges and services, such as contactless transactions, online purchases and cash withdrawals.

MASTERCARD DEBIT, with Chip & Pin integrated technology, enables you to trade safely and easily using your personal PIN code. At the same time, contactless transaction technology allows you to safely trade any amount without entering the card, but by keeping it in front of the terminal. Especially for amounts up to €50, the PIN is not required to type.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

Personal debit electronic card used for:

  • transactions in millions of businesses with physical or electronic outlets with the Mastercard badge worldwide by charging the linked card account up to the equivalent of the daily card limit while providing convenience, security and speed in all your transactions
  • cash withdrawals with up to the equivalent of the daily transaction limit of the card, on a round-the-clock basis, via NBG’s and other banks’ ATM network in Cyprus and abroad
  • additional transactions, such as balance enquiries and change of PIN via the NBG ATM network in Cyprus and abroad
  • online purchases in thousands of online stores bearing the Mastercard brand as well as at verified e-shops participating in the Safe@Web transaction security service in order to make more secure transactions remotely to certified merchants.

Using contactless transaction technology, NBG’s Mastercard Debit provides additional convenience and speed in all your purchases at merchants equipped with the special terminals displaying ​​the contactless logo.

How?

    • Hold the card for a few seconds in front of the terminal.
    • For transactions up to 50 euro, the transaction is completed without entering the PIN(*),
    • For transactions more than 50 euro, enter the PIN of the card, if requested.
    • When you hear the sound (beep), your transaction will be completed.

 (*) For your safety you may be asked to enter the PIN for transactions equal or less than €50.

  • Cash available via ATM’s around the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • Free of charge cash withdrawals, from any ATM of NBG and JCC Payment Systems Ltd in Cyprus
  • Carry out purchases at all retail stores in Cyprus and abroad displaying the “Mastercard” logo
  • Convenience in all transactions, without having to make money transfers or cheque deposits
  • By paying with your own readily available money you avoid paying interest or other charges during purchases
  • On every purchase or cash withdrawal, your card directly debits your deposit account on the day following the transaction. Your card is directly linked up with your deposit account (current, sight or savings). You can link up to 4 accounts
  • Your transactions are secured by setting up a daily maximum purchase limit and a daily maximum cash withdrawal limit
  • Participation in lotteries with great prizes
  • Issuance of the MASTERCARD DEBIT card presupposes that you have a deposit account (current, sight or savings)

NBG provides maximum transaction security for your MASTERCARD DEBIT card. However, the security of your transactions is also your own responsibility. Therefore, for your own security you should bear in mind that:

Your PIN is equivalent to your signature and:

  • is unique and strictly personal
  • should not be disclosed to anyone else, even the staff of the Bank
  • should not be kept with the card
  • that it is safer to change it regularly
  • when you enter the pin, cover the keypad with your free hand
  • you should not accept any help from other people when entering your PIN
  • make sure that the next customer is standing at a safe distance from you

MASTERCARD is a credit card, with the Chip & Pin technology integrated, that allows you to make your transactions safely and easily using your personal PIN code. At the same time, contactless transaction technology allows you to safely trade any amount without entering the card, but by keeping it in front of the terminal. Especially for amounts up to €50, the PIN is not required to type.

Each month we send to the address you’ve given us a copy of your card activity, stating in detail the amount and date of each transaction during the month (up to the closing date of the statement), the total charges, the amount of the minimum instalment and the payment date.

You can also access the said information via our Internet Banking service, provided you’re a registered user.

You can pay your credit card bill in a number of ways:

  • by instructing us to automatically debit your NBG deposit account (to do this you should fill in the relevant authorization form at any of our Branches)
  • in cash at the teller’s desk in any of NBG’s Branches
  • via our Internet Banking service

Please inform us immediately of any change in your personal particulars (home address, contact information etc.) simply by visiting an NBG Branch.
