The purpose of our CSR Action

The Bank and its subsidiaries aim for high standards of corporate citizenship by preserving and promoting universal human values as well as the social, intellectual and cultural value systems of the countries in which NBG operates. The Bank further ensures that the CRS Action framework also remains aligned to the long-term interests of its shareholders.

At National Bank of Greece, supporting Cypriot society is an integral part of our identity and operations. Guided by the principles of responsibility, contribution and sustainable development, we invest concistently in initiatives that create long – term value for society. Our actions focus on strengthening education, promoting innovation, supporting vulnerable groups and enhancing the environment in which we live and work.

Our actions is structured and developed across three core pillars:

  • Education, Innovation & Financial Literacy

We support knowledge and lifelong learning, promote financial education among young people and actively participate in Cyprus’ innovation ecosystem.

  • Social Contribution & Human Rights

We stand alongside the local community through initiatives of giving, supporting vulnerable groups. We collaborate with local authorities and non – governmental organizations on actions that deliver meaningful impact.

  • Environment & Sustainable Development

We promote initiatives that enhance sustainability and environmental responsibility while at the same time, investing in our people wellbeing and the creation of an inclusive working environment.

 

ACTIONS 2025

  • Scholarships and educational partnerships supporting young people
  • Awarding the Annual Student Essay Competition of the Embassy of Greece
  • Educational presentations in schools, focusing on the importance of saving from an early age
  • Expansion of the NBG Business Seeds programme in Cyprus, through participation in leading innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives, including: Cyprus Entrepreneurship Competition (C4E) of the University of Cyprus, Inspire Entrepreneurial Festival, Reflect Festival and the KPMG Accelarator program.
  • Participation in the “More than Money” programme in collaboration with ACB & JA Cyprus.
  • Financial and in-kind donations to nonprofit organisations. Among others Mora Thavmata, Europa Donna, Cyprus Anticancer Society, Cyprus Red Cross, Pancyprian Organization for the Blind, Anti-Drug Association, Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF) etc.
  • Employee volunteering initiatives, including:
    – blood donation
    – participation in marathons
  • Collection of toys and essential items for children and families for vulnerable groups
  • Sponsorship of the Nicosia Christmas Festival, contributing to the revitalisation of the city centre
  • Donation of equipment to the Hellenic Force in Greece (ELDYK) and the National Guard
  • Support of historical research through the purchase and publication of a scientific historical study
  • Provision of the events hall at Lyssiotis Building Headquarters) for scientific and academic events.
  • Awareness campaign on environmental responsibility
  • Collection and recycling of batteries with AFIS
  • Distribution of olive trees to employees
  • Initiatives marking Internation Women’s Day
  • Team Building activities that strengthen collaboration and team spirit
  • Participation in marathons and sporting events
  • Energy efficiency upgrades, including full transition to LED lighting and installation of photovoltaic systems across building infrastructure
  • Green mobility initiatives, including studies for the gradual replacement of fleet vehicles with electric vehicles
  • Digitization initiatives aimed at reducing paper consumption
